Addie: “Well, there’s people that eats up the whole Earth and all the people on it. Like the Bible with the locusts. Then there’s people that stand around and watch them do it. Sometimes I think it ain’t right to stand and watch them do it.”
Horace: “There’s something else in the Bible, Addie. Take us the foxes … the little foxes that spoil the vines … for our vines have tender grapes.” ~ The Little Foxes, by Lillian Hellman
I’m at my sister’s house. We’ve been going through the boxes of Mom’s photos and dividing them into appropriate piles. Sometimes we take breaks to watch a movie. The Little Foxes is one of the movies we watched and even though it takes place in the late 1800s, it’s eerily similar to what’s happening in the world today. And that got me thinking.
The next morning I woke up and it was the day of the State of the Union address by President Biden. I’m sure many country’s leaders around the world have similar type of address to their citizens. Today I was thinking about what President Biden might say in his speech, and I was hoping he’d remind those in Congress who want to block every law that would help people, that they are servants of the people. They are not there to gain power, or riches but to try to make the lives of the citizens they represent better.
Which led to the idea that it would be good if all politicians, from school boards, to city and state officials, would consider their jobs as a ministry. But as all good ideas do, it grew into, wouldn’t it be great if every single person on the planet approached their jobs as their ministry instead of trying to “eat the whole Earth”.
Losing my Mother has made me contemplative about her life. She was loved because she loved people. She was kind and always tried to include those who were not noticed, or who were actively shunned. I think she knew what it felt like to be left out and she wanted to spread as much love and acceptance to those around her as she could. I learned that from her. And I think it’s a good way to live.
Focusing on the needs of others and helping them, is a good way to help us heal our own wounds. I think my Mother learned that early on and continued to practice it all her life. It was her way of making the world a better place to live. She didn’t march or protest, but her way of standing up to those who are eating the Earth, was to love those who were suffering because of petty disregard.
I think I’m going to continue to do the same thing. After all, spreading love is much more rewarding than trying to end up with all the toys. I mean, once the greedy get all the wealth, will there be anyone left for them to share it with? That does not sound like fun to me.
Welcome new followers. I hope your week ahead is full of kindness and love.
Blessings,

Rita Gau’s review: Recently, I finished reading a book titled, The Space Between Time, by my friend, Lucinda Sage-Midgorden. It was the best book I’ve read in a long time. It kept me captivated, which I have not experienced from any other book for the past couple of years. I loved all the little gems of meaningful and what I call spiritual statements throughout the book. You know, those words that make you pause and think, and sometimes have an “aha” from or a deeper awareness about something. And it was entertaining and informational about some of the history in the 1800’s and yet, contemporary. It also reminded me of the importance of “living in community” and how important it is to help one another and be engaged in your community. Thank you Lucinda for a wonderful, entertaining and captivating book!
